One of the jewels of the Windward Islands, St. Lucia boasts a landscape expansive in banana plantations, picturesque hamlets and beautiful harbors reminiscent of an older Caribbean. The island, volcanic in origin, still slopes with forested peaks, the highest of which is Mt. Gimie, soaring more than 3,000 feet skyward. The area is abundant with flora, including the wild orchids and giant ferns. Look for the tropical birds while hiking the islands curving trails and pathways. A popular attraction that shouldn’t be missed is the nearby Soufriére volcano where you can hike to the crater and learn about the volcano’s impact on the island. Travel along the west coast to idyllic Marigot Bay then further south to the spectacular Pitons that rise above the sea and are covered in dark-green foliage. Once you’ve taken in the island scene your bareboat journey continues southward.

FRIDAY MAY 6

Fly from LAX on AA #1592 departs LAX at 12:35am, arriving Miami at 8:47am. Depart on AA flight 2295 at 9:44am, arrives St. Lucia (UVF) at 1:27pm. We will do our chart briefing and check out this afternoon while part of our crew provisions the boats.

SATURDAY, MAY 7 - Rodney Bay

We will eat breakfast ashore, and set sail on our first leg of your adventure with a short passage along the island’s western shore. Sail into the island’s beautiful bays known for their quiet serenity and flourishing nature. Relax onboard or find a quiet spot along the shore to take in the view of the expansive sea beyond. Further south, hike through the winding paths that lead inland and bring you to the lush, green foliage that rises into the clouds atop Mount Gimie.

SUNDAY, MAY 8 - PITONS, ST. LUCIA

Rise with the sun and sail south along the west coast to the conical twins, Petit and Gros Piton, both of which are more than 2,400 feet in elevation, appear off the port bow. The volcanic plugs are a World Heritage Site and one of the most recognizable features of the island. Pick up a mooring north of Petit Piton, and head ashore to explore the natural wonders of the area, which include waterfalls and sulfur springs.

MONDAY, MAY 9 - ADMIRALTY BAY, BEQUIA, ST. VINCENT

From St. Lucia, sail south with a fair wind off the beam and across open waters to the small island of Bequia. Admirality Bay, the island’s naturally formed main harbor, sits below verdant hills and opens to pristine aqua water. A 500-yard stretch of sand makes up serene Princess Margaret Beach, which is surrounded by a thick lining of trees and spills into unspoiled waters. Swim or snorkel along the shore before taking in the setting sun from the deck of your yacht.

TUESDAY, MAY 10 - SALT WHISTLE BAY, MAYREAU, TOBAGO CAYS

Sailing into Salt Whistle Bay you will find pleasant anchorage among a serene setting of calm, blue water and soft sand fringed with palms. The village of Old Wall sits near the bay and provides visitors with several bars and scenic views of the island. Take a short trip east to the Tobago Cays Marine Park. The five uninhabited isles are among the most beautiful in the Grenadines and are ideal for snorkeling, diving and simply relaxing on shore. Horseshoe Reef hems the cays, protecting sailors from the trade wind swells and providing a home to all manner of sea life.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 11 - MUSTIQUE

It’s a close reach to Mustique, an exclusive, privately owned island, home to approximately 90 sprawling mansions of the world's rich and famous, though that's not its chief attraction. Mustique is special because it is so unspoiled. Sailors are welcome to hike and bike the roads and trails, or tour by taxi or horseback. Stop by the famous Basil's bar for dinner or drinks in an informal setting. Of course, up market dining is also available!

THURSDAY, MAY 12 - BLUE LAGOON, ST. VINCENT

Travel back to St. Vincent for a day in one of the area’s most spectacular natural harbors. Blue Lagoon, at the south end of the island, is an excellent anchorage where you can stop while en route north to St. Lucia. Your stop at the Young Island marina is a perfect time to relax before the next leg of your journey. The area offers pristine views of the southern region of the island with a beach surrounded by palm trees and calm waters.

FRIDAY, MAY 13 - MARIGOT BAY, ST. LUCIA

Like a secret hideaway, Marigot Bay is a paradise for those that sail into its pristine waters surrounded by verdant foliage. Boats gently sway in the calm breeze and you can enjoy the views from your own yacht while sipping cocktails or dining on deck. The bay may be recognized from when it was used for several scenes in the original Dr. Doolittle movie. End your day watching the sun set over the horizon as it washes the sea in shades of pink, orange and red.

SATURDAY, MAY 14

Though you may not want to sail back to reality, your final leg of the charter will be a memorably scenic jaunt. The short sail north will bring you back to The Moorings’ base in Rodney Bay. Check out at noon and go to the airport for AA flight 2295 at 2:30pm, arriving in Miami at 6:20pm. Take flight 1238 at 8pm to Los Angeles, arriving at 10:29pm.
